The strong central trio gives the romantic comedy warmth, wit and convincing contradictions.

Liebesbriefe aus Nizza begins with a retired officer discovering letters that disturb his understanding of a long marriage. Old jealousy and wounded pride send François towards a confrontation, giving Ivan Calbérac's summer comedy a personal conflict beneath its sunny appearance.

André Dussollier makes François's strict exterior and vulnerability work together. The fragility is a source of comedy without removing the character's emotional credibility. Sabine Azéma adds warmth and lightness as Annie.

Thierry Lhermitte provides an effective contrast through Boris's relaxed charm. The three central performances turn the relationship into a lively exchange between different temperaments, while supporting characters give the family additional dynamics.

The dialogue is pointed and energetic. Calbérac handles strengths and weaknesses with an interest in the contradictions of people rather than simply assigning blame. That balance helps the humour remain connected to recognisable feelings.

Warm colours and sunny Riviera views create an inviting, slightly nostalgic atmosphere. The images and steady rhythm suit a story concerned with old wounds, new interpretations and the way time can complicate a familiar relationship.

This is a successful summer comedy with romance and worthwhile character detail. Its lightness does not prevent it from finding emotional truth. The cast and confident direction make the questions of love and jealousy engaging, even when the setting promises a much easier holiday.
