New Beginnings follows a long-married couple whose separation produces more complications than either expects. Philippe Lefebvre turns the wish for change into a comedy about the vulnerability and uncertainty hidden within a familiar relationship.

Karin Viard gives Diane's dissatisfaction and divided feelings conviction. Franck Dubosc finds vulnerability in Alain's attempts to respond to the break. Their chemistry makes the emotional history believable, even as new relationships disturb it.

The humour works through recognisable, bittersweet situations rather than constant exaggeration. The balance between wit and seriousness gives the characters room to experience change instead of simply moving between comic misunderstandings.

The visual atmosphere supports that balance. Summer warmth and melancholy can be felt together, reflecting a story where apparent freedom does not immediately remove loneliness. The images contribute to the relationships' emotional texture.

Supporting performances add lightness and further perspectives. Some developments are predictable, but the ensemble and sensitive approach make them enjoyable. The film has more interest in its people than in proving that every new twist is surprising.

New Beginnings is an entertaining reflection on relationships and the courage required to leave familiar routines. Its strong leads keep the comedy emotionally grounded. Viewers looking for charm with a bittersweet side should find a worthwhile film, even when its direction is easy to anticipate.
