Seven years of film journalism
filmbuZZer began in 2019 with Eddy’s film criticism. Over seven years, filmbuZZer has published more than 800 film and series reviews, alongside rankings, interpretations and features. Current releases, enduring classics, cult favourites and unexpected discoveries all belong here.
The work starts with watching the films, taking notes and researching their context. We examine how scenes are staged, how characters develop and which ideas hold a story together. That work gives our criticism its point of view and you something to weigh against your own experience.
Reviews, interpretations and rankings
Our reviews explain what makes a film work and where it falls short. Performances, images, sound and pacing all shape the judgment. Film explanations, story interpretations and ending analyses follow the details that can change how you see the whole film. Major revelations stay behind spoiler warnings, so you decide how far to read.
In The Thing, the creature effects are astonishing. But the suspicion between the characters makes the quieter scenes just as frightening. Our review explores how both sides of John Carpenter’s horror work together.
Highlights & Rankings draw on viewing, research, notes and close comparison. We weigh films against one another, explain the selection and make a case for the order. The result gives you connections to follow, favourites to reconsider and films to put on your watchlist.
BUZZ: follow the ideas further
A different ending can change a film’s entire meaning. A camera angle can put you inside a character’s unease. BUZZ follows those questions through scenes, characters, themes and filmmaking choices. These essays give an idea room to develop, connecting close analysis with the context that makes it matter.
NEWS: what is happening in film and television
NEWS covers new film and series projects, casting, trailers and release dates. We check the sources and explain what the announcements mean for the films and series you follow. Official trailers are included when they are the subject of the story, giving you something to watch as well as read.
A different way into cinema
Our theme weeks and months bring films into conversation. HorrOctober gathers horror reviews, rankings, BUZZ essays and news around the ideas that make the genre unsettling. Follow a theme, compare different approaches or find an unexpected film for tonight.
Find a film for the mood you are in
What should I watch? brings our reviewed titles together in a film finder. We categorise them by format, genre and mood, with film length as another way to narrow the choice. Choose what you feel like, set the time you have and explore the matching titles. Each result leads to the review, helping you decide whether the film is for you.
Read in English or German, move between reviews and related film topics, or watch the original filmbuZZer videos on YouTube. Whether you want a quick verdict or a closer look, there is a way into the film that suits you.
