His manipulation reaches its peak when he agrees to her suggestion of a meeting. But instead of appearing for a conversation, Edward completes his act of revenge by leaving Susan alone in the restaurant, trapped in the same emotional vacuum into which she once pushed him.
Through the manuscript, Edward succeeds in forcing Susan to revisit their shared past, only to reject her coldly at the decisive moment. It is not only a personal triumph for him, but proof that emotional wounds often cut deeper than physical ones, a vicious and masterfully staged reckoning.
