In Wahrheit: Die Liebe und der Tod – Digital Threats, Human Fear

The calm investigators and the treatment of stalking give the case weight, even when its escalating plot becomes less convincing.

In Wahrheit: Die Liebe und der Tod moves from a murder investigation toward a story about stalking, digital threats and the difficulty of knowing whom to trust. Its strongest element is that shift in perspective.

Tobias Schricker is found dead in the home of his missing former partner Katrin Sommer. Her new partner Hannes Großmann then reports aggressive messages and threats from her. Judith Mohn and Freddy Breyer investigate a woman who seems to remain one step ahead.

The film considers how phones and digital traces can shape an image of a person. Stalking has consequences beyond providing a thriller premise: fear and loss of control become central concerns. The quieter moments in Judith's private life extend that interest into everyday relationships.

Christina Hecke's calm, observant approach suits the material. Robin Sondermann gives Freddy a more direct energy, and the established partnership needs no manufactured conflict between the investigators. Small exchanges are enough to make their trust credible.

As the case escalates, the screenplay's construction becomes more visible. Some developments are more effective than believable, and the tension varies. For me, the social concern is stronger than every individual twist, but the atmosphere and central performances make this an interesting case. Not everything is plausible; enough stays with me. My rating is 6.5 out of 10.
