Freelance combines action and comedy in an adventure led by John Cena. He plays former special-forces soldier Mason Pettits, who finds himself caught in chaos in South America. Pierre Morel, known for Taken, mixes tension and comedy through energetic action and an involving story.
An assignment in the jungle
Mason’s assignment takes him away from routine life as a lawyer and father. He is hired to protect journalist Claire Wellington during an interview with dictator Juan Arturo Venegas. When a military coup erupts, Mason, Claire and the dictator must flee together into the jungle, encountering danger along the way.
Cena, Brie and Raba
The chemistry between Cena’s Mason and Alison Brie’s Claire adds an emotional dimension beyond the immediate action. Juan Pablo Raba’s eccentric dictator makes their shared escape an unexpected combination of dangerous situations and comic exchanges. The action has a convincing physical impact, drawing viewers into its chases and fights.
Action and dialogue
Freelance shows that action cinema can offer character development and subtle humour alongside explosions and stunts. Quick exchanges, witty dialogue and carefully choreographed sequences make it a lively celebration of the genre with an individual approach.
Verdict
For viewers looking to relax and enjoy the spectacle, Freelance is an appealing choice. Its twists and energetic action remind us that sometimes the pleasure comes from watching an entertaining story unfold. A recommendation for anyone happy to switch off for a while and enjoy the adventure.
