My Favourite Cake follows Mahin through a lonely life in Tehran and a renewed wish for companionship. Maryam Moghaddam and Behtash Sanaeeha combine humour and feeling in a tragicomedy that connects one woman's experience with wider social restrictions.

Lily Farhadpour makes Mahin's loneliness and desire for connection tangible. The encounter with Esmail Mehrabi's Faramarz has convincing chemistry, giving the affection emotional credibility. Love in later life is treated sensitively and respectfully.

The direction is subtle but powerful. Fine humour and strong feelings draw the viewer towards the people, while the images of Tehran maintain a balance between melancholy and hope. The visual simplicity contributes to the atmosphere.

The social pressures around Mahin matter alongside the personal story. Encounters with authority reveal limits placed on women and give her choices additional weight. The politics remain connected to ordinary experiences rather than detached commentary.

Music and sound support the emotional course effectively. The film's atmosphere has room for both the desire for pleasure and the restrictions surrounding it, helping the different concerns remain part of a coherent experience.

My Favourite Cake is a successful film about love, loneliness and the search for connection. Strong performances and sensitive direction make its personal story moving, while the Iranian setting gives that story a specific political dimension. Its warmth and quiet resistance work particularly well together.
