Zahan Kapoor anchors an oppressive prison drama that connects personal responsibility with institutional power.

Black Warrant follows a prison officer trying to retain a sense of responsibility within a system shaped by corruption and violence. The adaptation of Sunil Gupta and Sunetra Choudhury's book connects institutional questions with a compelling personal story.

Sunil Kumar Gupta takes a position at Tihar Prison and finds that duty is difficult to separate from compromise. Financial responsibilities and pressure within the institution add to his conflict. Zahan Kapoor makes that struggle convincing, giving the character emotional depth rather than only innocence.

The prison hierarchy feels oppressive. Sidhant Gupta's portrayal of Charles Sobhraj provides a particularly unsettling example of manipulation and privilege within that world. The drama's moral ambiguity emerges through those relationships.

Dark images and claustrophobic camera work make the confinement tangible. The music strengthens the atmosphere, while the storytelling ties questions about power and justice to Gupta's experience. The series invites consideration of whether integrity can survive in such conditions.

Some episodes feel overloaded, and several supporting characters would benefit from more depth. For me, the strengths remain substantially greater than those limitations. Black Warrant is tense and emotionally demanding, with performances that make its difficult institutional setting personal. It offers more than a prison thriller's familiar conflicts, turning the pressure on its protagonist into the center of a thoughtful drama.
