Our Little Secret: Christmas With an Awkward Past

Lindsay Lohan and Ian Harding bring enough charm to a festive comedy built around one inconvenient former relationship.

Stephen Herek's Our Little Secret places Lindsay Lohan in the middle of a Christmas gathering where the past has arrived uninvited. Avery is spending the holiday with her boyfriend Cameron's family for the first time. Then Cameron's sister Cassie introduces her new boyfriend Logan: Avery's ex, whose relationship with her ended abruptly ten years earlier.

Avery and Logan decide to conceal their shared history. Naturally, keeping that secret generates precisely the awkward encounters they hoped to avoid. Jon Rudnitsky plays Cameron, Katie Baker plays Cassie, and Ian Harding joins Lohan as Logan.

Lohan gives Avery a solid combination of charm and vulnerability. Harding complements her well, and their chemistry is evident. Kristin Chenoweth supplies additional comic bite as Cameron's sharp-tongued mother Erica.

Herek keeps the pace moving and balances romance with comedy effectively. The wintry setting and festive atmosphere provide the appropriate Christmas mood. Graham Robbins' camera presents the surroundings attractively, although it rarely adds a distinctive visual idea.

Following Falling for Christmas and Irish Wish, the film continues Lohan's run of romantic comedies with Netflix. It suits the comfortable entertainment those collaborations have established.

Our Little Secret is light holiday viewing. It is unlikely to join the great Christmas classics, but a film does not need permanent residence in that company to make a cozy evening work. The charm is there, the festive mood is there, and for that modest purpose it does enough.
