Mayhem!, known in Germany as Farang, follows Sam's attempt to leave a criminal past behind in Thailand. Xavier Gens brings action, tension and drama together through a revenge story whose setting gives familiar material a particular atmosphere.
Nassim Lyès combines strong physical presence with emotional intensity. Sam's suffering feels credible alongside the fighting ability, making the central role more than a vehicle for choreographed encounters.
The direction handles brutal action with confidence. Scenes have a raw, immediate force, while the Thai surroundings give the story a grounded environment. The film's energy comes from both the movement and the pressures around it.
The images bring together the beauty of the locations and the harshness of the criminal world. Precise action choreography gives the fights clarity and intensity. The technical treatment is one of the film's most convincing qualities.
The story offers predictable moments, and some character development is limited. The cultural setting adds a fresh perspective, but cannot make every familiar revenge pattern distinctive. Those weaknesses keep the film from becoming exceptional.
For action fans, Mayhem! still provides solid entertainment. The lead performance, physical action and confident direction make its strongest passages worthwhile. It is an effective genre film with memorable moments, even if the dramatic construction is less striking than the force of the encounters.
