10. Smile 2
Naomi Scott makes Skye Riley’s growing isolation tangible. Parker Finn expands the horror through public pressure and expectations placed on a vulnerable person. Some scares are predictable; dense atmosphere and the lead performance nevertheless make this sequel especially strong for me.
9. The Substance
Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley give beauty obsession physical and psychological meaning. Coralie Fargeat’s film is ambitious and visually impressive. Its metaphors could be subtler and some passages shorter. The destructive conception of physical perfection nevertheless provokes reflection for me.
8. City of Darkness
Kowloon Walled City becomes a dense space for a brutal power struggle. The martial-arts sequences impress me even though the story offers little entirely new. Detailed design and physical energy create its distinctive effect.
7. Der wilde Roboter / The Wild Robot
Roz must find her place within an animal community. Chris Sanders connects impressive animation with empathy and the relationship with Brightbill. For me, an unusual character’s understandable need to belong provides its strength.
6. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
George Miller connects spectacular action with Furiosa’s development in a brutal world. Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth give the conflict intensity. Vehicles, images and sound create a grand experience strengthened for me by humanity within the harshness.
5. Green Border
Agnieszka Holland considers the border region from different perspectives. Oppressive images and moving performances reveal desperation and hope. I appreciate its seriousness about humanity without offering easy answers to political and moral conflicts.
4. American Fiction
Jeffrey Wright’s author provocatively tests the literary market’s expectations. Cord Jefferson connects biting humour with identity and artistic integrity. Precise dialogue and emotional depth make it stronger than simply a collection of accurate jokes for me.
3. Anora
Mikey Madison sustains the connection between lively comedy and class conflict. Sean Baker examines how money and power affect a relationship. For me, its strength lies in energetic staging that never loses the protagonist behind its social perspective.
2. Dune: Part Two
Denis Villeneuve connects monumental images with power, politics and personal sacrifice. Timothée Chalamet shows Paul’s development, while Zendaya gives Chani greater weight. Battles and music impress but belong to a film reaching beyond spectacle for me.
1. Ein kleines Stück vom Kuchen / My Favourite Cake
Mahin’s move beyond loneliness and encounter with Faramarz affected me most deeply. Maryam Moghaddam and Behtash Sanaeeha find considerable emotional force in small moments. I ultimately placed it above Dune because humanity, love and the courage to begin again make the decisive difference for me.
