This selection comes from my November 2024 video about Netflix action films. Science-fiction battles, spy thrillers and character-led confrontations sit together, followed by two bonus choices. The original list also included a look ahead to The Old Guard 2, identified separately below. It is an archived selection, not a promise of current availability in every country.
1. Rebel Moon
Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon combines spectacular science-fiction action with influences from Akira Kurosawa and Star Wars. A peaceful colony faces overwhelming oppression, and Kora recruits fighters to resist it. Courage and resistance accompany large-scale battles and elaborate world-building. Snyder's distinctive images are central to the experience.
2. Heart of Stone
Gal Gadot leads Heart of Stone as secret agent Rachel Stone, confronting the danger of powerful technology falling into the wrong hands. Gadot gives an impressive performance in a story joining espionage and technology. Tom Harper brings suspense and style to the action while the character's dilemmas concern trust and responsibility.
3. The Mother
Jennifer Lopez plays a former assassin who leaves hiding to protect her daughter in The Mother. Motherhood, loss and devotion give the action drama emotional weight. The dark aesthetic and Lopez's performance bring more than a simple action vehicle; the choreography is impressive, but the parent-child bond is what makes the danger register.
4. The Killer
David Fincher's The Killer follows Michael Fassbender's methodical assassin after an assignment goes wrong. Fincher takes time over precise details, and Fassbender's restraint makes the man's thought processes compelling. The tension and controlled aesthetic form an intense, almost hypnotic encounter with professional rules and self-preservation.
5. Extraction 2
Chris Hemsworth returns for another dangerous rescue in Extraction 2, seeking to free a Georgian gangster's family from prison. Long, apparently unbroken action sequences produce a remarkably immersive effect. The film also extends Rake's conflict between brutal professional methods and the search for redemption. It is a spectacular action film with an interest in the man performing the violence.
6. Damsel
Damsel gives Millie Bobby Brown a princess who discovers she is to be sacrificed to a dragon and refuses that fate. Fantasy and action overturn the passive fairy-tale role. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo sustains a compelling pace through the heroine's challenges, combining impressive imagery with a story of self-determination.
7. Rebel Ridge
Jeremy Saulnier's Rebel Ridge confronts corruption and justice. Aaron Pierre's former Marine needs to post bail for his cousin, but local police seize his money. The resulting conflict pits him against institutional abuse. Its physical action and dark atmosphere make the struggle forceful, while the character must negotiate the boundary between the law and taking matters into his own hands.
8. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.
Eddie Murphy returns as Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. His daughter's involvement in a dangerous conspiracy puts humour and action together again. Murphy supplies energy and charm, while nostalgic elements meet new confrontations. The result remains loyal to the series' appeal while refreshing its format.
9. The Old Guard 2 – the original look ahead
The Old Guard 2 was a forthcoming sequel when this video appeared in November 2024. Charlize Theron's immortal team and director Victoria Mahoney made it a natural subject for anticipation, with the characters' history and ethical dilemmas offering possibilities beyond their fights. It belongs here as that historical look ahead, rather than as a claim that I had reviewed the completed sequel at the time.
10. Atlas
In Atlas, Lopez plays an analyst confronting an artificial-intelligence threat. Her own past and the technological danger intersect. The emotional centre gives a human dimension to the science-fiction premise and raises questions about humanity's relationship with technology.
Bonus: Project Power
The first bonus is Project Power. A mysterious pill grants different superpowers for five minutes in New Orleans. Jamie Foxx, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Dominique Fishback pursue its source. It combines action and science fiction in an intense, visually effective film.
Bonus: Army of Thieves
Army of Thieves, a prequel to Army of the Dead, follows charismatic safecracker Dieter as a mysterious woman recruits him for a series of European robberies. Heist plotting, humour and action make it an appealing companion to that world, with inventive situations and a likeable central figure.
