Zendaya is attached to star in a new science-fiction film that Alex Garland will write and direct for A24. Variety reports that filming is planned for 2027. The title and plot are being kept under wraps.
The project connects two established A24 collaborators. Zendaya worked with the company on Euphoria and appeared opposite Robert Pattinson in The Drama. Garland's films with A24 include Ex Machina, Men, Civil War and Warfare.
Science fiction is familiar ground for both. Zendaya plays Chani in Denis Villeneuve's Dune films, while Garland's work in the genre includes Annihilation and the television series Devs. His screenwriting also extends to 28 Days Later and its later sequels.
Garland also has the Elden Ring adaptation in his A24 slate. Variety reports that its shoot has wrapped, with Kit Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Ben Whishaw, Nick Offerman and Tom Burke among the cast. The new Zendaya project has not yet announced supporting actors or a theatrical release date.
