Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz’s next Mummy film has a title: The Mummy: Book of the Dead. Variety reported the announcement on October 15, with the new adventure scheduled to reach U.S. theaters on October 15, 2027. The Numbers also lists that date for Universal’s wide release.
Fraser and Weisz return as Rick and Evelyn O’Connell, the pairing at the heart of the 1999 film and The Mummy Returns. The announced cast also includes John Hannah, Michael Johnston, Numan Acar, Kevin J. O’Connor and Oded Fehr. Story details remain under wraps, so the title is the clearest new indication of how Universal is presenting the continuation.
The earlier films mixed archaeological adventure, supernatural danger and comedy rather than treating their revived monster as a purely grim horror figure. That combination gave the O’Connells a different identity from the studio’s older creature features. It also makes the return of both leads a central part of the appeal.
The original 1999 hit led to The Mummy Returns in 2001 and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in 2008, as well as The Scorpion King spinoff. Book of the Dead now gives the forthcoming entry a name beyond the provisional Mummy 4 label.
