The Emmy Awards move to Prime Video in a six-year global deal

The ceremony will stream free worldwide from 2027, without requiring a Prime membership.

The Emmy Awards are changing their television home. The Television Academy and Prime Video have announced a six-year agreement beginning in 2027, taking the ceremony to a single global streaming partner. The live broadcast will be available free in more than 240 countries and territories. Viewers will not need a paid Prime membership to watch it.

The agreement replaces the arrangement in which the major US broadcast networks took turns carrying the show. ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC shared that rotation, with the cycle ending in 2026. The new contract changes both the platform and the organisation behind the annual broadcast, rather than simply adding an international streaming window.

For the Academy, continuity is part of the appeal. In AP's reporting, chair Cris Abrego described the opportunity to build with one partner across several years instead of repeatedly adapting to another network. The contract gives that partnership a defined term. It does not disclose the financial value of the agreement, so the announcement provides no basis for a dollar comparison with the previous television arrangement.

Amazon and the Academy also plan activity around the awards beyond the ceremony itself. Specific extra programmes and their release schedules have not been laid out. The immediate viewing change is clearer: the main Emmy ceremony is due to become a free global Prime Video event from 2027, replacing the rotating US network line-up.
