Dear William, the film adaptation of David D. Magee's memoir, has begun production in Mississippi. Deadline reports that Matt Passmore, Emily Rose, Gabriel Nagy and Hudson Macready lead the cast. Andrew Hyatt directs from his own screenplay, with Magee and Cory Pyke producing.
The story follows David, played by Passmore, and his oldest son William, played by Nagy, on a two-thousand-mile drive to California. During the trip, the father recognizes that both are struggling with addiction. The family drama also follows Kent, played by Rose, and Hudson, played by Macready.
Magee's book is titled Dear William: A Father's Memoir of Addiction, Recovery, Love, and Loss. Its adaptation brings that family account to the screen with the author involved as a producer. Hyatt's previous directing work includes The Blind and Paul.
Passmore is familiar from The Glades and Satisfaction, while Rose led the supernatural series Haven as Audrey Parker. Macready's television credits include High Potential. The production announcement identifies the principal cast and location but does not set a theatrical release date.
