Bloodaxe has unveiled its first teaser, introducing Prime Video's new Viking drama ahead of a January 20, 2027 launch. All eight episodes are scheduled to arrive together in more than 240 countries and territories. The footage was presented during the New York Comic Con campaign, moving the series from a production announcement to a first public preview.
The drama centres on Erik Bloodaxe and Gunnhild as they fight for power in tenth-century Norway. Xavier Molyneux plays Erik, while Jessica Madsen plays Gunnhild. Their struggle places the throne at the centre of a story involving rival ambitions and competing loyalties. The ensemble also includes Levi Miller as Haakon and Rod Hallett as King Athelstan.
Michael Hirst and Horatio Hirst wrote the series and share showrunning duties. Michael Hirst is already closely associated with this territory through Vikings. That earlier History series followed Ragnar Lothbrok, presenting him as both a warrior and a farmer drawn toward exploration and raids. Bloodaxe shifts its attention to a different central couple and a separate struggle for authority.
The production has already moved beyond the first season: a second is filming in Ireland. That is a concrete continuation of the project, not simply a hope expressed alongside the teaser. Amazon MGM Studios produces the drama. For the first season, the release plan offers a complete eight-episode run from launch day, giving viewers the option to follow its succession conflict without waiting for weekly instalments.
