A first international push
NBCUniversal Formats has acquired distribution rights to Action Arena, a Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS) show, according to Deadline. The Japanese format is being taken to international buyers for the first time in its more than 30-year history.
Action Arena premiered in 1994 and aired more than 800 episodes and specials during a 17-year run, Deadline reports. After that long history, the new development is the offer to buyers abroad, not a newly announced episode or series.
Our takeA rights acquisition and an offer to buyers are not the same as an order for a new version. The reported development concerns distribution; whether it leads to an international adaptation remains open.
